The Talent Manager creates a positive and supportive environment for the artist and production teams by building meaningful relationships with the teams they have been assigned. They manage the day to day operations of employees in order to build strong and diverse teams. They work closely with project leadership in order to schedule and manage crew with an overarching focus on the long-term growth of artists through performance feedback and career development.
What You'll Do:
- Drive the career development of your teams by understanding and evaluating individual skills. Partner with the training team and department leadership to create a plan in order to achieve development milestones
- Manage the performance of your artists and production team to create and foster a positive and constructive feedback environment with the goal of helping them grow and meet their short and long term career goals. Engage HR as needed to assist with driving these initiatives
- Support the Director of Talent Management to drive strategies for long term planning.
- Work closely with producers or project and department leadership to ensure projects have the right teams assigned for the project needs
- Assess and drive any strategic capacity, show leadership and utilisation challenges to proactively solve any short and long term issues. Keep all the relevant information up to date and accurate within our resource planning systems
- Determine the long and short term needs of the department and partner with the recruitment team to drive the strategic approach for building capable and diverse teams
- Provides mentorship and clear guidance to the Talent Coordinators and Associate Talent Managers to manage the administrative and logistical support for the artist and production team. This includes leave requests, timecards, surveys and mortems, and other ad hoc tasks.
- Responsible for the strategic planning of your teams which includes succession planning, employee contracts, team morale, and budget management among ad hoc tasks and projects for overall individual and team management
- Create and maintain opportunities for engagement and positive morale amongst team members
- Collaborate closely with the Talent Management team to share knowledge and ensure consistent practices and approaches
- Manage locally, but think globally as ILM collaborates with our *** around the world
What We're Looking For:
- Candidates with 10+ years of relevant experience should apply. Experience in people management or leadership is required
- Bachelor's Degree in film production, communications or equivalent preferred
- Genuine passion for management and ability to create an environment conducive for all team members to excel
- Proven scheduling and problem-solving skills and VFX knowledge are an additional advantage
- Ability to provide both positive and constructive feedback
- Happy to take on a variety of responsibilities all contributing to the end goal of a positive team environment with high levels of self-motivation and proactiveness
- Lead by example and instinct for creating teams, an eye for spotting talent and a passion for diversity and team culture
- Must be able to work quickly, adjust to changes and effectively turn around reports and analysis in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written along with administrative and organisational detail
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite
- Previous experience in the VFX industry in a scheduling or other relevant role or other high-end computer graphics production environment is a plus
