From the press release: Golden Years is a documentary chronicling the Golden Years Theatre Company's production of Peter Pan. What makes this stage production special is that this musical is performed entirely by senior citizens.
When actor-turned-producer Brooke Tansley pitched the idea of making a documentary film about Waterbury, CT area senior citizens stepping on stage in a musical – many for the first time – to veteran Hollywood producers Jim Milio and Jeanette B. Milio, it took less than five minutes for them to say yes.
Jim Milio is best known for producing the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time – My Big Fat Greek Wedding – and the Emmy nominated reality series Dog Whisperer that ran on Nat Geo for 160 episodes and 9 seasons. Jeanette B. Milio has worked on the development, production, financing, and distribution of over fifty films and series, working with such stars as Academy Award winner Halle Berry and Jason Statham.
The documentary captures the bravery, fun, vulnerability, and personal relationships that blossom from being bold enough to say yes to adventure in this late season of life.
Peter Pan is a musical about the magic in keeping connected to the child inside of us. The film will include the auditions, rehearsals, and performances alongside interviews, backstage and offstage moments, and the unexpected adventures among these newfound friends and castmates. “This story had the potential to move and inspire audiences all over the world,” says producer Brooke Tansley.
Bob Tansley - producer Brooke Tansley's dad and director of over 50 local productions - is the founder of the Golden Years Theatre Company. Bob has the ability to inspire communities to follow him into unknown adventure, and we are thrilled to be along for this one!
