Packaging Assistant, Part Time

*** Midwest *** has an opening for a part-time Packaging Assistant, *** Michigan Newspapers prints 4 Dailies and Weeklies owned by *** , plus a variety of Commercial Printing. We are seeking an individual with high standards in quality and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

Operates, setup Kansa and maintenance
Operates, and maintenance of all ink jet bases, strappers, and conveyors
Operates Ink Jet setup and labeling
Operates, setup SLS and maintenance including Vacuum Pump.
Operates Post it Note machines during production
Organizes BCC software for mailings
Investigates errors, corrects, and reports
Helps organize incoming pre-prints and Postit Notes by dates
Uses forklift truck to unload trucks and get down skids from racks if needed
Attends weekly staff meetings
Alerts Packaging Manager of ser *** or parts for equipment
Make deliveries if needed
Delivers printed material to Bindery at Bulldog Square
Performs daily housekeeping of Packaging areas
Need to cover for team members on vacation or call-ins
Available for Bindery work at Bulldog square
Ability to work on press when needed

Requirements:

Strong attention to detail and proof-reading skills
Willingness to work in several different departments doing various duties.
Self-motivated
Self-starter
Complete tasks that are given
Computer skills
Mechanical abilities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Head Pressman and Production Manager, following their guidance and instructions to ensure a seamless workflow.
Safety and Maintenance: Safely operate and meticulously maintain the press and associated equipment and systems, fostering a secure work environment.
Plate Handling: Bend and proficiently install plates on the press, ensuring accuracy and alignment.
Paper Preparation: Prepare paper for the press, seamlessly creating roll splices without compromising the continuous web.
Product Stacking: Bundle and stack printed products on skids, occasionally utilizing strapping equipment, and preparing materials for mailing as needed.
Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized work area by diligently sweeping, mopping, and disposing of trash daily, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace.
Equipment Maintenance: Conduct press maintenance tasks as required, either proactively or as directed by the Head Pressman or Production Director.
Urgency: Maintain a sense of urgency when it comes to addressing press waste and making necessary color adjustments on the press, guaranteeing quality and efficiency.
Job Ticket: Carefully review the job ticket for each assigned task to execute jobs accurately and in accordance with specifications.

Qualifications and Skills:

Press Trainee Experience (Preferred): Ideally, we are seeking candidates with prior experience as a press trainee or similar roles to bring their knowledge and skills to the team.
Clamp Truck Certification: Possess a valid clamp truck certification to safely handle materials and products.
Mechanically Inclined: Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, enabling efficient equipment operation and troubleshooting.
Dependability: Be a reliable and punctual team member, consistently meeting work commitments and deadlines.
Team Player: Foster a cooperative and collaborative work environment by working effectively within a team and supporting colleagues.

Additional Requirements:

Night Shift: This is a night shift position from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM, providing an opportunity for those who thrive in evening hours.
Lifting: This position includes a general lifting requirement of 40-50 pounds, ensuring that you have the physical capacity to manage material handling as part of your responsibilities.
Drug Screen: Successful candidates will be required to undergo a drug screen as part of the hiring process to maintain a safe and drug-free workplace.
